Preventive Health

Under the preventive health program, HAPHI provides the following services:
1) Educate refugees about accessing the health care system;
2) Educate refugees about the nature and need for preventive health care; and 3) Increase the linguistic and cultural resources available for service providers.
HAPHI collaborates with other agencies to improve multicultural and multilingual organizational capacity in the areas of: 1) community health education, 2) direct services to clients who need help negotiating the health care system, and 3) coordination of health care services from a number of different institutions and organizations. Project staff from each agency will meet bi-weekly to share information and expertise. Project staff will also meet with local refugee health services and voluntary resettlement agencies to coordinate health care provision to refugees.
The program serves the Haitians, Somalis, Haitian and other African refugee populations in Boston and the Greater Boston metropolitan area. Though by virtue of their location these organizations are apt to serve Boston, Chelsea and Cambridge, they are not limited by neighborhood or city boundaries. The goal is to serve the ethnic populations of focus, wherever they might.
